Policy priorities for England’s road network and developing the second Road Investment Strategy

21 Feb 2017
Central London

Guests of Honour: Jill Adam, Director, Strategic Roads, Economics and Statistics, Department for Transport and Jim O’Sullivan, Chief Executive, Highways England

This seminar will assess delivery of the Government’s £15bn Road Investment Strategy (RIS), and the next steps for policy development as the successor investment scheme begins development.

Delegates will consider the prospects for long-term investment and the future shape of the road network as development of the second 5-year RIS begins, as well as the expected establishment of the National Road Fund in early 2017 and the increasing scale of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Further sessions will discuss the opportunities for integrating a national strategy as aspects of transport governance are devolved to the Midlands and North of England, with the upcoming establishment of Transport for the North as a statutory body. There will also be an opportunity to assess road users’ priorities and the climate for procurement and delivery.

At this early stage, we are delighted to include presentations from Jill Adam, Director, Strategic Roads, Economics and Statistics, Department for Transport; Jim O’Sullivan, Chief Executive, Highways England; Jonathan Bray, Director, Urban Transport Group; Guy Dangerfield, Road User Director, Transport Focus; Tim Jones, Chief Executive Officer, Connect Plus; Professor John Polak, Director, Centre for Transport Studies, Imperial College London; Jack Semple, Policy Director, Road Haulage Association and a speaker confirmed from the Office of Rail and Road.
