Report says high-speed rail network could benefit economy

A UK-wide high-speed rail network is vital for the future success of the UK economy and could benefit it by as much as £55 billion, according to a report.

The British Chambers of Commerce, supported by Network Rail and Greengauge 21, say the business and environmental case supports the building of a new rail network as soon as possible. The study calls for the three main political parties to sign a binding agreement committing any future administration to developing the network as proposed by HS2, the company created by the government to research the viability of the scheme.
