Planting of trees approved by London mayor

The planting of 4,000 trees on streets in 20 boroughs across the capital has been approved by London mayor Boris Johnson.

The participating boroughs will be selected on the basis of those most in need of additional street trees. There are 840 planned for west London. Nearly half of the first 1,500 trees planted under the mayor's programme last year were in east London. Boroughs will now assess the suitability of locations suggested by residents.
