Energy plant wins consent

An energy recovery facility in Doncaster has been granted permission despite public opposition.

Developer BioGen Power's facility will be capable of handling 120,000 tonnes of waste and generating 9.4MW of electricity per year. The plant will use gasification technology supplied by Energos, avoiding the need for incineration.

BioGen chief executive Christian Reeve said: "Our success in Doncaster, where there is a fair amount of public concern, was due to the application and skills of our planning team working with consultancy SLR."

The firm plans to build 12 plants across the UK to generate more than 100MW of electricity a year, treating more than one million tonnes of residual waste.
