Edinburgh station submission builds in consultation response

Network Rail has submitted plans for an interchange station at Gogar to Edinburgh City Council following a pre-application consultation.

The Transport Scotland- funded project will create a station on the Edinburgh- Fife line connecting to a stop on the tram network for onward passenger transfer to Edinburgh Airport.

A number of changes to the early design proposals have been incorporated. These include improved bus interchange facilities with suitable car parking and drop-off provisions, secure covered cycle parking for a maximum of 100 cycles, larger lifts to transfer prams and cycles and enhancements to the station access under the A8 serving the Edinburgh Park area.

Network Rail director Ron McAulay said: "Our consultation provided important issues to consider and we have incorporated a great deal of those comments into our final design proposals."

He added: "We believe that the end result is a striking yet practical design. The station will provide a crucial transport link for Edinburgh Airport and the west Edinburgh and central Scotland area." Completion is planned by September 2011.
