Bus route hit by challenge

A £20 million high-speed bus route in Hampshire is being challenged on the basis that it would endanger bats and badgers.

A resident living close to an old railway line where the route is planned said Hampshire County Council failed to take potential harm to wildlife into account when it approved the project between Fareham and Gosport.

Vivienne Morge from Gosport, who launched the High Court case, also argued that residents living near the proposed route would be adversely affected by noise from construction work.

The council said it included measures to move a number of badgers as a condition of approval. Some 291 people objected, which it argued shows a low level of concern about the potential impact.
