Wales awards city funding

A £38 million project to regenerate Swansea's city centre and waterfront looks set to move ahead after funding was secured.

The financial package includes £28 million from the Welsh Assembly Government, of which £20 million will be provided from the European Regional Development Fund. The investment will underpin the city centre strategic framework and drive forward a series of regeneration projects including the creation of a European-style boulevard.

Swansea City Council leader Chris Holley said: "It has been our ambition for many years to improve links between the city centre and the waterfront and this investment will help us to achieve that. We are in the position to deliver work with our developer Hammerson to transform the city."
