£22m - Government funding allocated to accelerate the commercial development of marine energy in the UK. Wave and tidal developers have been invited to bid for the sum, which is being delivered by the Carbon Trust.

£6.5m - Cost of a planned rail station in Stratford-upon-Avon. Stratford Parkway would help transport the growing numbers of commuters to Birmingham and would be built between the existing Wilmcote and Stratford stations.

1,500 - Proposed number of new homes submitted for a development in St Austell, Cornwall. Developer Wainhomes has put forward plans for a 51ha site including family homes, affordable housing, shops, offices, a school and parks.

80% - Percentage of respondents to DEFRA's survey on attitudes and behaviours towards the environment who agreed that they were worried about changes to the countryside in the UK and the loss of native animals and plants.

46% - Percentage of people who felt that more activities for teenagers were the most needed improvement in their local area. Road and pavement repairs was the second highest wish with 41 per cent, followed by traffic congestion, crime prevention and better public transport, with 36 per cent, 31 per cent and 23 per cent respectively.
