Slump stems Dundee plans

Proposals for a £50 million extension to Dundee's Overgate shopping centre have been postponed because of the recession.

However, in a statement Dundee City Council and centre owner Lend Lease made it clear that they saw the delay lasting only until the economy improves.

"Despite difficult economic times, we are working closely with Lend Lease to ensure that Dundee reaches its full potential and that Overgate phase two can move forward," said a council spokesman.

The expansion was unveiled last year and would have created 40 stores, a food court and parking. Overgate is credited by the city council with attracting investment to Dundee and driving forward renewal.
