City outlines design rules

An urban design guide launched by Nottingham City Council at MIPIM aims to promote high standards of sustainable design and architecture in the city centre.

Developed over four years by the council urban design team, the guide develops the ten-year vision in the city centre masterplan. "It provides greater detail and rules to shape the way development takes place," team leader Nigel Turpin explained.

"It is targeted at all developers, landowners and their advisers and will provide advice as to the type of scheme that is likely to be acceptable through the planning process," he added.

"It will also be relevant to others in the community with an interest in our city centre and its unique historic character. Its aim is to set out clearly what is expected of developers and provides a level playing field in terms of certainty and consistency."
