Town project seeks backer

Gateshead Council is looking for a £1 billion partner to deliver one the UK's largest ever regeneration projects.

More than 70ha of land is set to be redeveloped in the council's 15 to 20-year vision. Some 3,000 homes, neighbourhood centres, community facilities and green spaces would be created on 19 sites.

These range in size from 0.5ha up to 12ha and consist of a mix of greenfield and brownfield, the majority in the Bridging NewcastleGateshead pathfinder area. The council is seeking a developer or consortium to step forward as a joint venture partner.

Council leader Mick Henry said: "We have already built a successful reputation on our ground-breaking approach to regeneration. We hope that the event will inspire developers to come on board and help us to realise Gateshead's big vision."
