Report plots resort future

A progress report on Blackpool's regeneration has been issued in tandem with an announcement that the urban regeneration company's masterplan will be reviewed.

Communities secretary Hazel Blears commissioned the report on the back of recommendations by the task force assessing long-term plans after the resort's failed super casino bid. Securing housing growth point status and £4 million funding from the DCMS's Sea Change programme were commended.

Government Office for the North West regional director Liz Meek said new ReBlackpool chairman Sir Howard Bernstein will set a clear direction for spatial and investment prioritisation with the masterplan review.
