CABE to help on Crossrail

A design review panel has been set up by CABE to provide advice on proposed Crossrail stations and the buildings above them.

The panel will assess designs for stations in prime London locations such as Bond Street, Paddington and Tottenham Court Road. It will be chaired by Les Sparks, a former CABE member who headed the body's national design review panel.

The panel will advise on those aspects of the stations needing consent from the relevant planning authority. These include building exteriors, entrances and ticket halls, as well as what will be built above the stations.

Designs will be reviewed at the earliest stage, giving time for the panel's comments to be considered and revisions made well before applications are lodged with local authorities.
