Morgan set for Crossrail

London Underground contractor Tube Lines' chief executive Terry Morgan is to replace Douglas Oakervee as non-executive chairman of the Crossrail scheme.

Morgan, whose organisation is charged with upgrading the London Underground network, will take over the post in November next year, rail minister Lord Adonis and London mayor Boris Johnson said this week.

Until then, Oakervee will continue on the £16 billion scheme as well as working for Johnson on a feasibility study for an island airport in the Thames Gateway (Planning, 14 November, p6).

Meanwhile, Gravesham Borough Council has been asked by the government and Transport for London to safeguard land for a Crossrail extension to Denton.
