Urban Vision widens offer

Salford-based regeneration and development company Urban Vision has opened its first regional office in Solihull in a move to strengthen its services.

Formed in 2005 as a joint venture by Salford City Council, Capita Symonds and Morrison Highways Maintenance, Urban Vision has become known for helping local authorities outsource their planning services, taking on development control, policy work and enforcement.

Urban Vision already works with more than 40 councils across England and Wales and is due to enter into an agreement with an East Anglian authority starting next year.

"Urban Vision has traditionally provided planning services to the Midlands area through its Salford office," regional manager Simon Wood explained. "However, with public sector outsourcing becoming an increasingly popular option, there is now an obvious advantage to operating at a more local level, allowing us to be more responsive to authorities in the region."

He added: "Outsourcing is cost-effective because our involvement can be turned on and off as required. Councils do not have to be concerned about having enough work for their staff and do not have the overheads."

Urban Vision partner Capita Symonds has already opened a network of planning offices in Carlisle, Colwyn Bay, Cwmbran, Durham, London, Salford and Southampton. The Solihull office will have access to the full range of Capita Group services and will benefit from links with other offices.
