Council leaders warn post office closures will kill high streets

Post office closures would kill off high streets across the country, council leaders warned this week.

Local authorities said they will campaign "in force" to ensure that much-needed post offices remain open. In a joint letter to business secretary Lord Mandelson, Local Government Association chairwoman Margaret Eaton and London Councils chairman Merrick Cockell said: "For many, the post office is the lifeblood of the high street. Losing it would rip the heart out of an area."
