Institution calls for stronger planning policies

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management has called for stronger planning policies against development in flood plains and areas of coastal erosion.

It argued that these "blue belt" and "yellow belt" areas need policies to protect against a presumption in favour of development. It added that the government needs to further consider areas where flood risk management is no longer sustainable.
