Firm to steer fens bridge

Royal Haskoning has been appointed by the National Trust to project-manage the planning, design and supervision of a bridge in the Cambridgeshire fens.

The crossing over Reach Lode dyke aims to open an accessible corridor as part of the area's strategy to increase the Wicken Fen nature reserve to 5,500ha. This will allow visitors direct access from Cambridge to Ely.

Royal Haskoning senior consultant David Bone said: "We will be involved from the planning stage through to construction, which is due for completion in autumn next year."

Wicken Fen Vision project manager Jon Megginson said: "We are working hard to enlarge the reserve for the benefit of wildlife habitats, residents and visitors by bringing adjacent land into conservation management."
