DC Casebook: Commercial and Industrial - Small workshop accepted in countryside

The change of use of a building in the Lincolnshire countryside into a small fabrication workshop run by the appellant has been approved despite the site's rural location.

The inspector noted that PPS7 supports reuse of appropriately located and constructed buildings in the countryside where this would meet sustainable development objectives. In this case, he found the low-key economic use appropriate given its location a short distance from a village. It was well enclosed by hedgerows and would help support the rural economy by offering a limited amount of local employment, he decided.
