Estate regeneration scheme scoops North East award

RTPI president Janet O'Neill presented the North East planning awards during a recent tour of the region.

The redevelopment of a council housing estate in South Shields won the main award. According to the judges, the £90 million Cleadon regeneration scheme "shows enormous promise in the blend of house and tenure types in a single overall design". Commended entries included the Sunniside Gardens scheme in Sunderland and the Gateshead Residents' Urban Design Training.
