DCLG details mayor's role

More details on London mayor Ken Livingstone's planning powers were set out in secondary legislation this week.

Livingstone will be able to examine any application for more than 150 homes if it is of strategic importance and has an impact on the London Plan. A borough's performance in delivering homes is also a factor in his decisions, according to the draft Mayor of London Order. He will look at 300 to 350 applications per year.

Meanwhile, guidance for councillors on strategic planning applications has been issued by the Government Office for London, London Councils and London First.
