The statistics, released by DEFRA this week, reveal that the total volume of waste going to landfill in the last year in London dropped by seven per cent to 57 per cent, comparable to the 58 per cent mean for England.
However, incineration in the capital has gone up by four per cent to 22 per cent, which is much higher than the national average of 11 per cent. The West Midlands has the highest incineration rate at 30 per cent.
