Yorkshire set for link cash

A road connecting Wakefield and Barnsley to the motorway network has been given the final go-ahead with £22.8 million funding, the government announced last week.

The final 8km stretch of the Dearne Towns Link will boost the West Yorkshire economy and improve safety in villages to the south-east of Wakefield, the Department for Transport claimed.

It will also encourage regeneration of the region, including redevelopment at the former South Kirkby colliery, the department said. The road was given provisional approval in 2000 at a cost of £11 million.
