RTPI calls for extra support for housing market renewalpathfinders

The institute has urged the government to extend its support for the housing market renewal pathfinders in response to a report from the National Audit Office (NAO) that casts doubt on the programme's effectiveness.

The RTPI has called on the government to set out a national framework for the co-ordination of policy and delivery. Policy director Rynd Smith said: "The NAO's uncertainty as to whether the pathfinders have made a significant impact in the early stages of the programme is illogical. The reasons why people leave pathfinder areas relate to failing neighbourhoods. It is crucial that the economy, housing stock and infrastructure are transformed in parallel."
