A draft protocol launched by the Project Taunton partnership last week calls on developers, contractors and property advisers to sign up to ten principles that cover low-carbon development, environmental responsibility, distinctive design and local job opportunities.
The initiative is part of attempts to promote Taunton as the UK's first zero carbon town. The protocol and a supporting document setting out detailed standards are to be subject to local consultation before a final version is issued next year.
"If the aims of the protocol are to be achieved, it is essential that we secure buy-in from all areas of the industry," said Project Taunton director Ian Franklin.
