Agency calls for dialogue

Planners and developers need to involve the Highways Agency in new schemes as early as possible, its chief executive said last week.

Speaking at the launch of the agency's development forum, Archie Robertson said it needs to be involved in any planning application that may increase traffic on England's road network.

The agency highlighted cases where the approach has been successful, such as a travel plan for a West Midlands business park. The forum was established to encourage planners to involve the agency at an earlier stage of development.
