Atkins set to examine A11

Atkins Transport Planning has been commissioned by the East of England Development Agency and Norfolk County Council to study dualling the A11.

Local businesses have been asked to tell Atkins of any instances where they have had to bear greater costs as a result of congestion on the road or if there have been occasions where growth has been hindered by the A11.

Breckland Council has backed a scheme to reduce congestion and accidents on the road and help growth in the area. The A11 passes close to Thetford, which has been given growth point status by the government. The council stressed that this growth is dependent on commitments to improving transport infrastructure.

Executive member for economic development Paul Claussen explained: "We need to have this dual carriageway link to the national trunk road system to improve transport between the UK and Europe."
