Financial services held excessive at home

The owners of a financial services business operating from a house in open countryside in Berkshire have failed in a bid to overturn an enforcement notice requiring the use to cease.

The appellants had in the past employed up to two secretaries. Given the distance to bus stops and railway stations, the inspector reasoned that the site required staff to use their cars every day, contravening sustainable development principles. The benefits of working from home did not override the harm arising from continued use of the premises in an unsustainable location, he opined.

DCS Number 100-050-784

Inspector Graham Dudley; Hearing.
