Eastern plan stalls again

The delayed East of England Plan is to go through a further eight-week consultation after changes were required to make it comply with the EU habitats directive.

The Government Office for the East of England (GO East) made the announcement this week after recently confirming ongoing work (Planning, 12 October, p4).

The consultation runs until 18 December, so the plan will not be finalised until next year. The draft was reassessed against the habitats directive by RPS.

Clarifications include stressing that Harlow's Rye Meads sewage treatment works will need to be expanded in a way that avoids harm to the protected habitat next to the site. There is also further guidance to ensure that development does not affect habitats around Thetford.
