Home target events begin

Regional housing figures need to be flexible, the government emphasised in the first of a series of seminars on the housing green paper.

DCLG director-general of housing and planning Richard McCarthy and regional officers are meeting local authority chief executives and directors to discuss how to meet higher targets.

The initiative follows concern that local framework delivery is lagging (Planning, 12 October, p3).

McCarthy congratulated the North East for the quality of its plans. Government Office for the North East head of housing and planning Diana Pearce said: "One key message is that plans should be flexible enough to respond to changing markets."

Meetings will be held in London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Cambridge and Nottingham, with the last in Taunton in January.
