Green homes win approval

Planning permission has been secured for a development comprising 119 sustainable homes in the Essex green belt near Chingford.

All the homes will use energy-saving technologies such as solar panels, ground-source heat pumps and rainwater harvesting, and 80 per cent will be affordable.

Speechly Bircham partner and head of planning Richard Keczkes said the site has been used for fly-tipping and lacks real public amenity.

He added: "The scheme is a good example of developers identifying the right plot, working in partnership with local authorities and delivering eco-friendly design."

A community hall, a shop and improved public access to Epping Forest are also proposed by Silver Property Development Ltd.
