Tram scheme moves ahead

The Edinburgh tram will be open by February 2011, scheme manager Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (TIE) has claimed.

The transport firm made the prediction in a business case that will be presented to its parent body Edinburgh City Council this week. Councillors will make the final decision on the project, which is to link Newhaven and the city's airport.

A review of the scheme's costs revealed that it is likely to come in £47 million under budget at £498 million. The business case also estimates that 11 million people will use the tram in its first year.
