Newcastle in revamp talks

A major public consultation looking at plans to regenerate 13ha of Newcastle city centre starts next month.

Newcastle City Council hopes to present a range of ideas that include expanding its retail offer, introducing public spaces and improving pedestrian and cycle links to the city centre.

It will consider additional hotels, a department store and more housing as well as reusing the area's listed buildings. Council leader John Shipley said the move would "reinforce our position as the regional capital".
