RAF site plan moves ahead

A housing development planned by Sheppard Robson and GVA Grimley on the site of a former RAF base in west London has been given the green light.

The redevelopment of RAF West Ruislip, a 9.3ha site owned by VSM Estates, will include 415 houses and a retirement home designed around a series of green squares, tree-lined avenues and play areas.

It is the first of the former RAF sites previously owned by the Ministry of Defence and sold to VSM Estates to secure planning permission for redevelopment.

GVA Grimley senior planner Nick Alston said getting the right mix of housing types and tenures was difficult. In spite of this, the planning process was completed within 13 weeks.

Developers are now being invited to put forward schemes. GVA Grimley will be responsible for overseeing the disposal of the site.
