Capita takes on police role

Capita Symonds' Cardiff office has been appointed to work on developing a £17 million headquarters building for South Wales Police in Cardiff Bay.

The team, headed by regional director Jon Salt and associate director Ian Archer, will handle every aspect of the development's design and construction. This will include architecture and building services as well as structural and environmental engineering.

When the station opens in 2009, it will contain 60 cells and state-of-the-art facilities such as computer-aided cell management systems. Demolition of the original Butetown police station has already been completed.

Cardiff divisional commander chief superintendent Josh Jones explained: "The building will represent a significant landmark in the Cardiff Bay area. It will allow us to remain an integral part of the community."
