Rennilson to stand down

One of Scotland's most senior local authority planning officials has announced his retirement.

Highland Council director of planning and development John Rennilson will step down in December after 11 years with the authority.

During this time he has overseen the rapid expansion of Inverness and been at the forefront of the debate over the location of onshore wind farms.

He is also an executive committee member of the Scottish Society of Directors of Planning and served as its chairman in 2000-01.

Before he moved to the Highlands, Rennilson was county planning officer with North Yorkshire County Council and assistant county planning officer at Suffolk County Council.
