Frameworks effort urged

Local authorities must step up efforts on local development frameworks (LDFs), DCLG housing and planning director-general Richard McCarthy urged this week.

Speaking to the Commons communities and local government select committee, McCarthy admitted that LDF delivery is falling behind. But he said steps are being taken to get key documents completed within two years.

"I will visit all regions shortly to speak to local authority chief executives," he told the committee. A DCLG spokesman said the government will consult on the LDF process later this year.

Planning Officers Society (POS) spokesman John Silvester said he welcomed extra DCLG support. But he added: "We are up to ten years away from a full set of LDFs."
