Forth bridge repair urged

A petition has been handed to the Scottish Government calling for a rethink on the decision to build another crossing of the Forth.

It was delivered by a group of South Queensferry residents who want the government to consider repairing the existing bridge instead.

A Friends of the Earth Edinburgh spokeswoman said: "It does not make sense to commit ourselves to a road crossing before being absolutely sure that the current bridge has no future."

Scottish ministers have decided that a crossing is needed because cables on the bridge are corroding (Planning, 17 August, p6).
