Hopes raised for rail lines

The West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority is considering plans to operate passenger rail services on lines used for freight.

Studies have shown demand for passenger services on the Camp Hill line. The transport authority has proposed track to link it to Moor Street station.

This would increase capacity and allow passenger services to be reintroduced between Moor Street and Kings Norton. It could also allow a local service between Moor Street and Tamworth, the authority suggested.

Assistant director of rail services Peter Sargant said the authority would also consider opening the Sutton Park line in the long term to provide for demand in the Aldridge area. However, he stressed that the plans are at an early stage.
