Airport details growth target in masterplan

Nottingham East Midlands Airport has published a masterplan that aims to make its site operations carbon neutral by 2012.

It proposes to eliminate carbon emissions from ground operations at the renamed East Midlands Airport - Nottingham, Leicester, Derby or introduce offsetting schemes elsewhere.

The changes are designed to cope with a projected two to threefold rise in passenger numbers by 2030. They also include more routes, a bus service extension, tougher measures on night flights and noisy aircraft and community investment. The number of jobs would be doubled to around 15,000 by 2016.

All 500 respondents who completed a questionnaire agreed that the economic and social benefits of airport growth would outweigh any adverse effects, the airport claims.
