Government funding awarded to London boroughs

More than £50 million of government funding has been awarded to London boroughs to build 800 affordable homes and improve the condition of housing estates.

The funding follows 29 bids from 18 boroughs for a share of the Estate Area Renewal Fund established by the now abolished London Housing Board. The £51.5 million package, announced by the mayor of London last week, is expected to attract nearly £200 million of private sector money and £92 million from London boroughs and the Housing Corporation.
