Edinburgh wins award

Edinburgh has won the European City of the Year honour in the 2006 Urbanism Awards. The Scottish capital beat off competition from Dublin and London for the accolade, which is organised by the Academy for Urbanism. Ludlow in South Shrophsire won the award for great town while Glasgow's Merchant City was honoured in the great neighbourhood category. London's Borough Market and Marylebone High Street won the great place and great street awards respectively.
