The 25ha brownfield site at the mouth of the River Tyne is earmarked for a mixed-use scheme that will extend the town centre with high-quality housing, commercial premises and open space in a waterfront setting. The team, which includes AZ Urban Studio, RPS Planning, Davis Langdon and the New Economics Foundation, will spend the next six months creating the plan. South Tyneside Council and One NorthEast have jointly commissioned the study. The team is also tasked with producing a development framework to guide land use in the surrounding High Shields area over the next 15 to 20 years.
