Grant awarded to Western Isles Council

A £1.2 million grant has been awarded to Western Isles Council by the Heritage Lottery Fund to regenerate Stornoway town centre. The Stornoway townscape heritage initiative will concentrate on redeveloping the historic heart of the town, which forms part of an outstanding conservation area. Vacant space in the town hall will be brought back into use and the derelict Female Industrial School will be repaired as part of the scheme.
