Work begins on biomass power station

Work has begun on a £90 million biomass power station that could supply enough energy to meet the needs of 70,000 homes. The Lockerbie station converts waste timber into energy and will create up to 340 jobs. The Big Lottery Fund is donating £18 million from its bioenergy capital grants scheme for the E.ON UK project, thought to be the largest of its kind in the UK.
