Investigation into future of regional government

An investigation into the future of regional government is set to be launched by the Commons ODPM select committee in light of the North East's rejection of an elected assembly in the November 2004 devolution referendum. The committee will study the potential for simplifying arrangements to establish regional assemblies and their powers.
