Fall in number of homeless families

A 23 per cent fall in the number of families made homeless last year was revealed by statistics published this week. Housing and planning minister Yvette Cooper welcomed the figures and announced an extra £88 million to fund front-line homelessness initiatives for local authorities. Adam Sampson, director of charity Shelter, called on the government to build more social housing.
