More brownfield development sites must be freed

The planning system must be freed up if help for first-time house buyers and more brownfield development are to be made available, according to Barratt Group chief executive David Pretty. While stressing that his firm is delivering more private homes, social housing and urban regeneration, Pretty added that the industry could do more if the planning system is overhauled. He proposed expanding the definition of affordable homes and increasing the government's brownfield development target.
