Capital casino directions set by committee

Super casinos in London should not form part of mixed-use town centre schemes, a London Assembly report argued last week.

The assembly's economic development committee said it wants assurances from developers that casinos will boost regeneration and employment opportunities as planned.

It is also calling for casinos to be located away from residential areas and high streets in separate entertainment districts. The report says that casinos should not be part of mixed-use town centre housing developments.

Committee chairwoman Dee Doocey said: "They should be dedicated entertainment and gaming venues where someone has to make a conscious decision to gamble."
