Team named to head work on skills issue

The Academy for Sustainable Communities board line-up was unveiled this week, featuring RTPI past president Kevin Murray and former Guardian regional affairs editor Peter Hetherington.

Deputy prime minister John Prescott named the team to oversee the work of the body, which is tasked with delivering the skills needed to create sustainable communities. Eight board members will support chairman Peter Roberts and chief executive Gill Taylor.

They include English Partnerships regional director Paul Spooner and English Heritage policy and communications director Deborah Lamb. The other board members are Anne McNamara, George Martin, Juliet Williams and Irene Lucas.

"The academy will drive forward a step change in the delivery of skills to allow different occupations to work together to meet the shared goal of creating sustainable communities," said Prescott. "This team brings a wealth of knowledge to deliver the culture change."
